SALES & PRICES

Start with the evidence.

Reported transactions give pricing a foundation. Compare the same market, pollutant and credit type before drawing conclusions.

Historical reported prices, not current quotes. Texas dates are agency receipt dates. Many California reports provide only a reporting year.

Default view shows positive-price observations after conservative exclusions. Change the start year to explore older records. Districts and pollutants retain their original labels.

Historical price observations

Each group keeps state, district or area, program, pollutant, price units, quantity units, period classification and year separate. These are unweighted observations, not a market appraisal. Texas report lines within the same project and group count once using the median of distinct reported prices. A project can still involve an intermediary or related parties. California observations are report lines after known duplicate exclusions, not necessarily independent contracts. A median is withheld below three observations.

Use sales carefully.

A price needs a market

Start with the receiving district or trading area, program, pollutant and units. Review restrictions, credit age, lot size and transfer conditions in the source. A California price is not a Texas quote.

A transfer is not always a sale

Zero-dollar entries, known duplicates, internal and subsidiary transfers, barter, leases, estimated creation costs, short-term credits, flagged small lots and second legs of the same lot are excluded from standard summaries. Other commercial relationships may be undisclosed.

Keep the original units

Original price units are retained. Dollars per ton, per ton per year and per pound per day are not pooled. A reported per-ton price does not establish the total contract consideration or an annual-rate price.

Where coverage is missing

Priced transaction evidence currently covers California and Texas. Other states' bank balances or transfer notices do not establish prices. New Jersey's linked transfer report has no price column. The New Hampshire registry mixes historical transactions with available balances and is not yet included in this price dataset.

What should establish a current asking price?

Use recent, relevant reported transactions as supporting evidence, then obtain a dated seller quote for the actual instrument, quantity, restrictions and delivery terms. Validate current ownership, balance and transfer eligibility with the regulator. This page does not produce a current valuation or guaranteed clearing price.
